Walter Roy “Walt” Steffen, 87, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 7:02 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2015 at Greencroft Health Care in Goshen, IN. He was born on March 6, 1928 in Elgin, IL to Theophile E. & Mabel M. (Wewetzer) Steffen.

He attended Elgin High School in Elgin, IL and on June 4, 1950 in Milford, IN he married Dorothy M. “Dot” Haab who preceded him on October 10, 2014. He moved to Milford in 1952 from Elgin, IL where he had worked at a watch factory. He retired from Johnson Controls as a tool & die maker after 33 years of service.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Milford where he was also a minister for 30 years. He also served as volunteer chaplain at Goshen Hospital for many years.

He is survived by:

5 Daughters – Pat (Wade) Stoller of South Bend, IN; Shirley Stoller of Paulding, OH; Marlene Bokholdt of Downers Grove,  IL; Kristi (Niles) Miller of Syracuse; and Caralee Steffen of Goshen

2 Sons – Richard (Gwen) Steffen of New Paris & Timothy (Marla) Steffen of Syracuse

16 Grand & 11 Gt. Grandchildren

5 Sisters – Louise Steffen of Elgin, IL; Helen Steffen of Phoenix, AZ; Lenora Steffen of Elgin, IL; Mrs. Jeanne (Richard) Stoller of LaJolla, CA; Gladys (Don) Kauffman of Bloomington, IL

2 Brothers – Dale (Sharon) Steffen of Rancho Santa Fe, CA & Albert (Shirley) Steffen of Stuart, FL

He was preceded by his parents, wife, daughter – Bonnie Steffen, sister – Rosemary Reckhemmer, 2 brothers – Raymond & Earl Steffen and 2 sons in law - Mark Stoller & Alexander Bokholdt.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 201 N. Higbee St., Milford, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Apostolic Christian Church with Daron Price & Randy Beer, ministers of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery.

Memorial bequest may be given to Apostolic Christian Church World Relief, 201 N. Higbee St., Milford, IN 46542. Envelopes will be available at the church and fellowship hall.
